After successfully making Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, Disney is now planning to remake the 1977 animated musical movie, Pete's Dragon into a live-action film. However, the newly adapted film will not be musical but it will be much "darker and grimmer."

Pete's Dragon follows the story of Pete, who at the age of four loses his parents in a tragic accident. The four years old Pete then finds himself deep in the forest where he has a near death experience and is saved by a dragon, Elliot.

As reported by HitFix, in the upcoming live-action film, Elliot is expected to be four stories tall and has big wings that are tucked against his body with "a spiny back with a great tail that looks it could level the whole forest with a single swipe." The monster will also have some unique qualities to change color and blend into the environment like a chameleon.

As reported by Crossmap, the 1977 animated movie was musical but now Disney has no plans to retain the old genre. The production giant has promised to create a new version of the movie in a more entertaining and creative way that would now focus on adventures and fantasies of Gen-Z.

Pete's Dragon is directed by David Lowrey, who was nominated in Sundance Film Festival for his 2013 film, Ain't Them Bodies Saints starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara. Oakes Fegley, who played the role of Elias 'Eli' Thompson in the series Boardwalk Empire will be seen as Pete. Disney has yet to announce who they are going to cast as Elliot the Dragon.

The adventure of Pete and his unusual companion will remind audiences of the How To Train Your Dragon series. But still, it would be a treat to watch as the visuals and plot seem to have taken a notch much higher than the original animated movie.

The live-action movie is slatedfor release on August 12, 2016.
